What is Holistic Healing?

There’s a lot of talk in the Spiritual Communities about Holistic Healing. So, what IS it, exactly? And why is it important? Well, for starters, let’s talk about the human body. You have a physical body and an energetic body. Your energetic body overlays your physical one and extends a few feet out from you (this is often referred to as your Aura). Every living thing is made up of energy and has an energetic body. This energetic body provided the blueprint for your own physical body to grow and is often the starting place of dis-ease when we get sick. Back to Holistic Healing. For me, Holistic Healing means that we’re using tools to facilitate healing on all levels – both physical and energetic. We’re also taking into account emotional and mental health. Holistic Healing is focusing on the whole package!

Holistic Healing Tools

There are a lot of tools out there that help us do this: meditation, grounding exercises, crystals, essential oils, and more. These tools help support and facilitate our body’s natural healing abilities. They don’t heal you by themselves – YOU do the healing and these tools help to move things along. 🙂 A good starting place in setting up your Holistic Healing practice is to protect your energetic body. As I mentioned above, this is often where dis-ease starts, so protecting your energetic body is just as important as fortifying your physical one. One tool that can help protect your energetic body is Shielding. You don’t need anything for this, other than your sweet self and a couple minutes each day. I do this in the morning, after I get out of the shower. Below is one of my favorite and most used Shielding exercises. There are several others that you can find in metaphysical books and online; find one that works for you and stick to it! Holistic Healing is about consistency and doing things that work well for you. You’ll be more inclined to do the exercise daily if you enjoy it!

Practice Shielding Daily

I want to preface that I didn’t write the original exercise! I’m not entirely sure where the original meditation came from (otherwise I would credit the author here!), but this is my modified version and it has worked well for me over the last 17+ years. 🙂

The Purple Sphere Meditation

Sit comfortably with your feet flat on the ground, or cross-legged. Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Next, imagine roots running from the bottoms of your feet through the Earth’s crust, down through all the layers to the very center of its core.As the roots touch the core, breathe deeply and draw up the red, hot molten energy of the Earth. As you breathe, the energy travels up through your roots – all the way up until they touch your feet. From your feet, feel the energy flow up your legs, through your torso, and down your arms. Continue to breathe up the energy through your roots until it reaches the tips of your fingers, toes and top of your head. Feel your whole body radiate with hot, earthen energy. Now, imagine branches sprouting from the top of your head, reaching up towards the sky. Feel them traveling further and further into the atmosphere, stretching out into space. Keep stretching them until the tip of the longest branch touches a bright, blue star. Feel the warm, glowing energy of that star travel back down the branch; breathe in that energy. With each breath you take, the blue energy travels back down the branch; all the down to the top of your head. Keep breathing in the warm, blue energy of that star. Feel it travel down your face, neck and torso. Feel it flood your abdomen, down your legs, down your arms; traveling all the way to the tips of your fingers and toes. Your whole body is now full of bright, blue celestial energy. Next, focus on your heart and feel it beating in your chest as you breathe. With each breath, feel the red, molten Earth energy swirl and mix with the bright blue, celestial energy. The energies swirl and merge with each breath, creating a brilliant purple energy. Continue to breathe and mix the energies until your whole being is filled with purple light. Feel the warm, purple energy push out from your skin until it fills the space of around you. Keep filling the space, pushing out that purple energy, until you are enveloped by a bright ball of purple light about 3-feet out from you in all directions.Continue to push out the sphere, further and further, radiating it out in all directions. Feel the excess light fade into the Earth, leaving you warm, centered and grounded. Take 3 deep breaths in and out, slowly feeling the weight of your body with each breath. When you’re ready, slowly open your eyes. Follow-up with a grounding activity, such as eating a small snack or holding hematite or a lodestone for a few minutes.

Now, Go Forth and Heal!
