I’ve been a practicing Wiccan for 17 years now and have used various different tools throughout my journey. However, I only started incorporating essential oils into my practice last year. Using oils in general, during ritual and spell work isn’t a new concept to most Wiccans and Witches, but with the wide range of essential oils available I wanted to write a quick post on how I’ve been using them.
I often diffuse essential oils or make “smudging” gem elixir sprays to cleanse and clear the energy of my sacred space before and after ritual or spell work. It’s easier (and less pungent) than traditional smudging with sage or spraying Florida Water (I’ve never been a fan of the scent). The essential oils I use the most for energy clearing are: “Purify” (doTERRA blend), or an equal combination of Lemon, Lavender & Peppermint. I diffuse about 2-3 drops per 100 ml of water. You can find all sorts of wonderful diffusers online; most of mine I’ve purchased on Amazon.com.
Anointing Spell & Ritual Candles
Making essential oil blends for anointing spell candles can be super fun! For basic spells, I use 1 oz of a carrier oil (usually fractionated coconut) mixed with 9 drops Ylang Ylang, 9 drops Frankincense, 6 drops Indian Sandalwood & 6 drops Patchouli. This is my go-to “Witchy” blend. Using 1-2 drops of doTERRA’s “Balance” blend also works well, as it has a nice woodsy, grounding scent.
Diffusing Oils During Meditation
Essential oils have become a staple in my meditation practice as well. Some of my favorite essential oils to diffuse are: doTERRA’s “Serenity” or “Balance” blends, Young Living’s “Sacred Mountain” blend, and a blend of Lavender, Vetiver & Patchouli.
These are just a couple of uses for essential oils within a Wiccan or Witchcraft practice. Do you have any Essential Oil uses you’d like to share? If so, I would love to hear about them!
