Intuition is your best tool when selecting crystals for healing – ALWAYS.  Books are great resources for information, but if something you read doesn’t resonate with you, then disregard it.  Seriously, not all crystals will facilitate the same types of healing in all people.  We all have different reactions to things, so it makes sense that some crystals might resonate with us differently than with others.  That’s okay!  As I said, your intuition is your best friend here.

One crystal set that gets the most discussion (and the most questions) is a chakra crystal set.  Most individuals follow the Hindu system of 7 major chakras (as do I), and here they are:

 The 7 Major Chakras

1). Root – Deals with security, family, heritage/roots and survival.  The colors associated with this chakra are black & red.  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Smokey Quartz, Red Jasper and Hematite.

2). Sacral – Deals with sexuality, confidence, creativity and basic emotional needs.  The color associated with this chakra is orange.  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Carnelian, Orange Calcite and Peach Agate.

3). Solar Plexus – Deals with sense of Self, willpower, fear and anxiety.  The colors associated with this chakra are yellow & gold.  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Citrine, Golden Tiger’s Eye and Yellow Jasper.

4). Heart – Deals with compassion, unconditional love, connection to others and devotion.  The colors associated with this chakra are green & pink.  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Rose Quartz (pink also resonates with this chakra!), Green Aventurine and Moss Agate.

5). Throat – Deals with communication, self-expression and maturity/growth.  The color associated with this chakra is light blue.  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Aquamarine, Blue Lace Agate and Blue Chalcedony.

6). Third Eye – Deals with thought, intuition and consciousness.  The colors associated with this chakra are dark blue (navy) and light purple (indigo).  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Amethyst, Sodalite and Lapis Lazuli.

7). Crown – Deals with spirituality, the Higher Self and connection to the Divine.  The colors associated with this chakra are dark purple (violet) and white.  A few crystals that balance this chakra are: Clear Quartz, Amethyst (yes, this crystal works with more than one chakra!) and Purple Fluorite.

Finding the right crystals can be a bit time consuming, so starting out with a pre-made kit can be one way to go, that’s also very budget friendly.  Remember, when building your kit – use your intuition! I can’t stress this enough. What works for one person may not resonate with you, lovely.

When building your own crystal chakra kit, I also recommend adding Smokey Quartz and/or Clear Quartz.  Smokey Quartz is a master healer crystal that also supports blocking electromagnetic smog from electronics.  Clear Quartz is an energy amplifier, so pairing this crystal with any of your others will give the support a big boost!

Using Your Crystal Kit

Now that you have the crystals, what do you do with them?  Lay down flat (your bed or the floor will work – whichever is most comfortable) and place the corresponding crystal over your chakra (for Root healing, place the crystal on one of your thighs).  Close your eyes and let the crystal do it’s work!  Anywhere from 5-15 minutes will do – a little goes a long way for crystal healing. You also don’t have to lay the crystal directly on your skin.  The vibrations of the crystal will get to where they need to go through clothing. 🙂

Make sure you take note of any impressions you get – how does the crystal feel?  If you start to get uncomfortable, it might be that the crystal isn’t for you.  And that’s okay!  Some folks are sensitive to certain crystals – just substitute that crystal for another one (for example, if Lapis Lazuli feels too intense for your Third Eye, try trading it out for Sodalite or Amethyst).

That’s it!  Those are the basics of crystal healing and chakra balancing, folks.  If you’re looking for building a great set for cheap, I highly recommend checking out  I get a lot of my own crystals from them and have shopped there for years.  They have amazing quality & customer service.  You can also check out Etsy or any local gem faires – these are great for meeting shop owners face-to-face to get their recommendations.  Local metaphysical shops will also carry crystals – some even have pre-made sets.

If you have your own recommendations, please leave them in the comments below!  Happy Crystal shopping.
